My First Ang Pau!!!!!!

Its the season!!! Well... ok... it WAS the season. The Chinese New year season! Quite a huge event here. Almost everything is closed here. Its the time to spend with family. Most of the students had gone home. Everything was decorated red. Yep! Sounds like Chinese New year!

But to me and few others, it was just another long weekend. A nice four day weekend. We really didn't celebrate Chinese New year the way it should have been. She just went out for shopping, a movie and of course to eat! On the day of Chinese New year, we went to Andromeda's house to have lunch. Its quite a long trip by the MRT to her house. Clueless, cookie monster and I just sat there watching people carrying red bags get in and get off. This is definitely Chinese New year. People going around with Ang Pau. It literally means "Red packet" (thats what I heard... ann@! correct me if I am wrong!). We all just sat in there and exchanged glances. We weren't going to get any Ang Pau. It was something the elders give the younger people of the family. Never mind! We weren't expecting one anyway.

But we were in for a surprise!

In Andromeda's house, after lunch, her mother gave us something like an Ang Pau. Not exactly a Red Packet. But it was a great gift for us! A "hindu" version of Ang Pau :) We were all so happy! We really weren't expecting anything! That was a wonderful chinese new year for us with excellent home cooked food and lots of fun with Andromeda! A beautiful way to spend the holiday :D

Then today we met ann@ after four days. And she had a little something for us... a nice Ang Pau!!! It was the literal Ang Pau! Her parents had sent Ang Paus for all of us! It was really sweet of them. Now I can say.. "I got Ang Pau for Chinese New year!!!" Thanks a lot ann@!!! That Ang Pau meant a lot to us :)

Here is a picture of the "red packet". My chinese Ang Pau :D

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

At times like this your parents must be feeling happy that they sent you to SG for studies. You are not only studying, but making new friends, learning new culture. This is a great way to learn the world and great age to do so. Wish you many more sweet surprises that the world has to offer you.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

GONG XI FA CAI!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes me wonder if you should learn chinese at SG. Afterall every third baby born on this earth is a chinese. Soon you will encounter more and more of them. Why not learn the language and culture, one of the most ancient wisdoms
