- Botulinum toxin is one of the deadliest toxins known to mankind. It is a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. Just half a kilogram of the toxin is enough to kill every man, woman and child on this planet (taken from the glossary of "Vector")
- Ebola virus is one of the deadliest viruses known to mankind. 90% or more of the patients affected by Ebola virus die. In all the outbreaks of Ebola, the source was never discovered. Only the epidemics were contained.
- I don't even have to say anything about AIDS. Everyone knows knows how potent it is.
Its mind blowing that we live on a planet which provides us with all the things we need to stay alive and also contains the deadliest substances which, if left to spread unchecked, can kill us all. Its mind blowing that apart from virus and toxins, there are a million other factors that endanger our lives constantly. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, volcanoes etc etc etc. No matter where we are in the world, we are never out of harm's way. I thought the city where I lived (not Singapore. my other city) was a safe place. I mean, nothing ever really happens there. Not in my locality. Atleast as far as natural disasters were concerned. Then the tsunami happened. One of my good friends lost her mother to the giant wave and nearly lost her little brother. She lives a few blocks away from me. Our locality wasn't affected. Her mother was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Who would have thought that going to the beach that morning could result in such dire consequences.
The bottom line is that, I think it is mind blowing that inspite of all the dangers lurking in every unexpected corner, life goes on. People in Mumbai still use the local trains, we still enjoy beaches, people still visit the African jungles (where Ebola was first observed) and the world keeps spinning! These dangers teach us, in a way, to live life the way we want, so when our time comes (as it must), we can have the satisfaction of saying we lived our life to the fullest and have no regrets.
Its an amazing feeling to realise that I live in a world filled with hope, courage, laughter and joy that can bring in light to guide us through our darkest days.
It truly is a beautiful world :)

It sure is! No matter what happens, people are always going to pick themselves up, brush themselves off and move on. Mankind is stronger than we think - it's gonna take more than a couple of viruses or epidemics to wipe us out. :)
And yep, I totally agree with the sentiment of living life to the fullest, the way we want to, so that we can go with no regrets. Amen, sister. :)
It is also interesting how every now and then new epidemics spread, the recent ones being bird flu and chikungunia. Life must still be evolving in our planet, new things crop up every day. At the same time some of the old ones are dormant or gone.
About living life to the fullest, yeah sure, I agree. Life is not about reaching the destiny, it is a journey that needs to be enjoyed, every picosecond of it!!!
After the blasts on the bombay local trains, everyone had thought that people would stop travelling by them, atleast for a while.. but the next day, people were back in full swing.. coz life has to go on.. what has to happen will happen.. you can't sit there anticipating it and make a mess of everything else.. :)
hey.. very nice blog. inspirational and hopeful. i have thought a lot along the same lines, and each time I did, my faith in the existence and power of God just exponentially increased. i think its nice to sit back once in a while, and reflect and feel happy about all that you have, and all that you have done :)
The world is a strange place isn't it? I don't really know what else to say haha. Been thinking a lot lately too about other things but I haven't really put them down on paper or on the comp.
